Letters Hanging from Ribbon

Big wooden letters are available at most craft stores or online. Or, if you have the tools, you could cut them out yourself! We took blue satin Ribbon and hung them from hooks in the ceiling and close to the wall. (The hooks are the kind used to hang plants and hanging lamps from in the seventies!) We tied the ribbons around the hooks in a simple knot, and then tied the letters at varying heights. This project took just minutes!

Ideas to come!!

Tulle tutus, ribbon dancers, gift wrap, ric rac aprons, hairbows, wet wipe cases, t-shirts, closet liners, book covers, closet organizers, hair bow holders, gifts, ribbon bracelets.

Ribbon Board

This cute, fun ribbon board looks great hung on walls in kitchens, bedrooms, etc. Pictures, recipes, tickets, notes, and pretty much anything else flat and light-wieght looks great tucked behind the ribbons.
Here's how.....
1. Take a piece of wood or plywood and cut it to your desired dimentions. Ours is about 2 feet X 1 1/2 feet.
2. Hot glue batting (like you would put in a quilt) to the board making sure you have enough to go over the edges and onto the back of the board about an in all the way around.
3. Turn the board over and hot glue the edges of the batting onto the back.
4. Hot glue fabric onto the batting. Again, leave enough fabric to go over the edges and onto the back.
5. Repeat step 3 with the fabric rather than the batting.
6. Criss cross ribbon over the front of the board in any pattern. We used satin ribbon 1/4 inch wide. Make sure you leave enough ribbon at the ends to go over the edges.
7. Hot glue the ends of the ribbon onto the back.
8. Hot glue the intersecting points of the ribbons to the fabric. Then, hot glue a button at each intersection.
9. Nail a picture hanger to the back of the board.
10. Slide pictures, recipes, etc. under the ribbon.
11. Hang on the wall and enjoy~

Ribbon as a Wall Border

This is the perfect way to add pizazz to a room for just a few dollars. We painted a wall a refreshing see green color. (Color in picture shown doens't do it justice).
How to do it...
1. Decide how high up you want your ribbon border. We like it about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the wall.
2. Take a ruler and measure from the floor to the height on the wall you want your ribbon border. Make a little pencil mark on the wall at the desired height.
3. Continue step 2 all the way around the room. So, you will end up with little marks a few feet apart, all the way around the room.
4. Using thumbtacks, straight pins, or staples, attach the ribbon to the wall lining it up with the pencil marks on the wall.
This can be done on one wall, or aroung the entire room. We used a stripped grosgrain ribbon that is about 2 inches wide.

Widths

Ribbons come in many different widths. The most common widths are1/8", 1/4", 1/2", 1", 2", 3", and 4". Many ribbon projects use many different widths as well as many colors, textures, and patterns.

Ric Rac Ribbon

Ric Rac Ribbon comes in all sorts of colors and widths. It is characterized by it's wavy design.

Wire Ribbon

Wire ribbon is great for tying those big full bows with lots of loops. The wire on the edges makes it extremely easy to work with.

Satin Ribbon

Satin Ribbon is very easy to find and inexpensive. It can be used for hair ribbons, shashes on dresses, on floral arrangments, and in many crafts. It is shiny and smooth.

Grosgrain Ribbon

Grosgrain Ribbon (pronounced grow-grain) is my personal favorite type. It is makes the perfect hairbow and is extremely versitile. It has small ridges all along it. It is inexpensive and comes in many varieties and widths.

Ribbonlicious

Ribbons can be found at pretty much any craft store and even most superstore giants. You can by them by the roll or by the yard. If you only want a couple of yards of ribbon, buy it buy the yard. If you need more ribbon than a couple of yards, you're better off to buy the whole roll. I always buy a little extra than what I need to build up a supply of random ribbon cuttings. (You never know when you will need them for a project or you can swap them with friends.)
